Job Description

Our client is one of the leading nonprofit organizations in downtown Toronto. They are looking for a results driven and passionate HR Generalist to join their team on a full time, permanent basis! This position would provide assistance to the HR functions within all the departments. The HR Generalist administers a variety of HR programs and policies including those related to staffing, compensation, benefits, training and workplace safety.

This organization requires you to work on-site at least 2 days per week. Standard office hours are Monday-Friday (08:30-4:30PM).

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provide full recruitment cycle support, including the preparation and posting of job postings, resume screening, telephone and/or face-to-face interviews, reference checking and issuing employment offers
  • Bridge management and employee relations by addressing demands, grievances, or other issues
  • Provide benefit and pension administration.
  • Provide guidance, policy interpretation and direction to staff on issues of employee relations, HR & organizational policies and procedures.
  • Actively participate in Health & Safety initiatives, assist in the administration of WSIB claims, return to work processes and ensuring a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Assist with terminations
  • Establish, implement, and maintain the onboarding processes and help plan training and development; prepare new employee files
  • Be an active member of the social committee and take leadership role in event planning for the company.

Qualifications and Experience
Must have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management or related discipline
  • 3+ years experience working in human resources; preferably in the nonprofit sector
  • Sound judgement and problem solving abilities; determining issues at the root cause and finding viable solutions in support of the team and company
  • High level of professionalism, decorum and discretion
  • Excellent computer skills; familiarity with MS Office suite, HRIS, database and records management
  • Strong communication skills, both in written format and verbally; excellent interpersonal relationship building skills to build trust and rapport with management and employees
  • Detail oriented and strong organizational skills
Nice to have:

  • CHRP designation preferred
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian law
  • Knowledge of all provincial Employment/Labor Standards

Education and Certifications

Minimum education required: Bachelor's Degree
