Job Description

We are currently recruiting for a Manager, Government Relations opportunity, with our fantastic client in Ottawa. The individual coming into this role, to join a team of 30 in the Association, will advance the Associations work with government decision makers, support the implementation of their annual government advocacy program, coordinate with elected officials and political staff, monitor parliamentary committees, identify and track key issues, and much more.

Ideally, candidates will be Bilingual in French and English, and hold recent experience working for elected officials or related experience in an Association. They will have excellent communication, and be organized, efficient and independent.

In return, they offer this position starting on a 6 month contract with the intent that this will transition to a permanent role after such time. With a head office in Downtown Ottawa, the team is currently working a flexible hybrid model of 2 days a week in office and 3 days working from home.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Work with members of the Association's Steering Committee on federal advocacy.
  • Organize and support outreach to government officials, including Members of Parliament, Senators, and political staff.
  • Tracking legislation and parliamentary committee work, including identifying opportunities for the Association to appear.
  • Develop and implement issue-specific advocacy programs as required for the Association's councils and Committees.
  • Regular preparation of Association correspondence from the organization to various government officials, senior bureaucrats and thought leaders.
  • Supporting member advocacy requests as needed, including the work of the Association's Government Relations Strategy Committee.
  • Assist in developing the Association's responses to a dynamic set of fast-moving circumstances flowing from federal legislation, regulation, and policy, including monitoring and analyzing notable federal announcements, reports, key meetings, parliamentary committees, and house and senate proceedings.
  • Perform various tasks in support of broader GR program services, projects and events, as needed by the Government Relations Team.

Qualifications and Experience
  • University degree and/or equivalent experience in a comparable field.
  • 2-5 years experience working in government, industry or a trade association.
  • Previous work experience on Parliament Hill with knowledge of the government and the federal legislative
  • processes.
  • Strong communicator.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Organized and detail-oriented.
  • No restrictions on lobbying under the The Lobbying Act.
  • French/English bilingualism
