Job Description

Our client, a large Outdoor Goods Retailer, is seeking a Department Manager to work in their new Eaton Centre location in Toronto. This is a permanent, full-time position with a fantastic total compensation package!

The ideal candidate will be a passionate outdoors enthusiast with a strong background in Retail Leadership and/or management. Full time availability Monday - Sunday is required.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Support frontline team in understanding store KPIs and providing them with updates on how the business is performing.
  • Supports and maintains systems in place to protect assets against theft, damage, and abuse. Ensure company losses are minimized, and staff have an understanding of the sense of urgency around actions to be taken.
  • Supports employee training and onboarding by leading training sessions and providing in the moment coaching.
  • Manages frontline staff performance by coordinating work, setting performance expectations, and holds staff accountable, ensuring they follow company's SOPs.
  • Provide ongoing feedback and coaching, addressing performance issues. Conducting annual performance reviews.
  • Responsible for conducting regular check-ins with frontline team to maintain open communication and to gather feedback on staff satisfaction.
  • Assist General Manager in store fireside chat meetings and daily huddles.
  • Supports recruitment of floor staff with the skills, by screening candidates and conducting interviews.
  • Ensures that merchandise for sales in assigned area of the store is displayed according to established systems and process standards, to ensure consistency in the delivery of an outstanding Member shopping experience.
  • Collaborate with the Merchandising team to ensure that suitable quantities of product are requested to promote demand according to the season.
  • Supports General Manager in ensuring that all Health and Safety standards are met in the store.
  • Assist the leadership team in creating store schedules that match the needs of the business.
  • Promote organizational culture, vision, and purpose amongst all staff within store.


Qualifications and Experience
Must have:

  • 1 year of experience in a similar role in a retail setting
  • 3+ years of leadership experience
  • Demonstrated skills in managing ambiguity, effective communication, managing conflicts, and driving results in a retail setting
  • Open availability 7 days a week
  • Well organized and strong in multi-taking
  • Basic knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel)
  • Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift up to 40lbs from floor to waist
  • Comfortable climbing ladders
