Job Description

Our large scale transportation client is looking for an Enterprise Solutions Architect to join their Innovation & Information Technology department. This is an exciting 6-month contract opportunity that is likely to extend. Candidates suited for this role must be comfortable working on-site a minimum of 2-days per week at our clients office in Downtown Toronto steps away from Union Station.

The Enterprise Solutions Architect also be able to demonstrate ability to derive, define, and explicitly represent various artifacts within The Enterprise Framework, and develop and maintain project level and enterprise level model consistency and integration. Must have experience working with Visio or Archimate.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Adhere to and align with corporate BT information mandates, client information technology strategic plan, environment and standards to participate in the development of solutions; and provide advice on short/long term solution service development activities
  • Undertakes the design of hosting technology solutions based on the client's service specifications, standards, policies, best practices and cost models, in order to meet client application business requirement and project/initiative deliverables
  • Preparation of technical specifications for installation, testing and performance of integrated, multi-services systems; assessing performance and capacity of existing system making recommendations for improving performance and develop technical documentation
  • Assess and evaluate client needs and cost/benefit analysis for new technology requirements in planning and designing solutions
  • Evaluate systems to assess condition, technical performance and capacity of existing systems and determine need and feasibility of expansion, renovation or replacement
  • Assesses and reuses patterns in the solution architecture and develops scalable multi-use architecture
  • Identifies implementation risks and analyses of potential impact on the enterprise and on the achievement of scheduled objectives
  • Analysis of technology industry and market trends to determine their potential impact on solution architecture


Qualifications and Experience
  • A minimum 6 years of solution architecture/solution design experience, ideally within the public sector environment
  • Previous solution architecture experience in large enterprise environments
  • Knowledge of Zachman and/or TOGAF architecture frameworks including business / information / application / technology / security architectures
  • Excellent knowledge of current development toolsets (Java, Oracle, Microsoft) and Unix and Windows operating systems, and be conversant with networking and communications principles
  • Must have good knowledge of Windows and/or Sun Solaris Unix operating systems, RDBMS background – Oracle and SQL Server relational databases; understanding and experience in the use of XML technologies for applications and systems interoperability
  • Experience producing target solution architecture, as-is documentation, and to-be blueprints
  • Knowledge of leading edge technologies design criteria, security and recovery procedures
  • Knowledge of integrated networking technologies, mainframe, midrange server, enterprise storage and SAN, and personal computer system technologies, related best practices, directory/messaging standards, standard facilities infrastructure/architecture management, facility service delivery processes, infrastructures policies, procedures and direction
  • Experience leading technical projects, with design and deployment of significant application n-tiered architecture
  • Extensive experience in systems analysis and design in large systems environments
  • Knowledge of technology developments, trends and new products to evaluated application to client short and long term technology requirements
  • Knowledge and expertise in the principles, practices and latest concepts in Enterprise Architecture, Project Management methodologies and Solutions Development life cycles, with the ability to promote a coherent, corporate approach to enterprise architecture
  • Strong oral and written communication techniques to prepare reports, reviews, briefing materials and correspondence; presentation skills to present information and findings, options and recommendations to senior officials and managers; ability to present ideas and suggestions clearly and effectively and in a user-friendly manner; maintain a high level of customer service to both internal and external clients
  • Strong follow-up skills; ability to organize applicable department timelines and follow up with internal and external customer needs
  • Strong organizational skills; ability to accomplish multiple tasks within the agreed upon timeframes through effective prioritization of duties and functions in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong track record of building and maintaining solid relationships with internal and external customers and vendors
  • Self-motivated; able to work independently to complete tasks and respond to department requests and to collaborate with others to utilize their resources and knowledge to identify high quality solutions; high initiative and ability to prioritize in a high-pressure environment and ability to work on simultaneous projects
  • Leadership, problem solving, interpersonal, and oral/written/presentation skills to lead the analysis, design, and development of enterprise technology/infrastructure architecture initiatives
