Job Description

Our client, an energy company, is seeking a Finance Manager to join their Ottawa-based team.

Reporting into the Controller and CFO, you will lead, coach, and develop a team of 3 accounting professionals. You will also be responsible for reviewing daily accounting transactions, coordinating month-end close processes, contributing to annual budgets, and performing quarterly financial analysis.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Process and reconcile intercompany transactions. Issue intercompany invoices for management charges, royalty charges, service charges at each month-end.
  • Calculate commissions; handle all commission related inquires from sales team and senior management team; and book commission accruals on a monthly basis.
  • Enter salary allocation of long-term projects in the accounting system based on the timesheet prepared by the engineers on a weekly basis.
  • Prepare Canadian and US sales tax filings for the group of North American companies.
  • Prepare month-end accrual entries and ensure General Ledger integrity by reviewing and reconciling GL accounts.
  • Ensure month-end closing process is completed within pre-set deadlines by leading the team.
  • Provide bookkeeping guidance to the team on a daily basis and provide backup support when needed.
  • Maintain vendor and customer relationship and handle inquires from vendors, customers and internal members related to payments and receipts.
  • Assist with the preparation of the quarterly/annual financial statements and note disclosure, management discussion and analysis, and press release.
  • Assist with budgeting and cashflow projections when needed.

Qualifications and Experience
Must have:

  • 4+ years' accounting experience
  • Team leadership or supervisory experience
  • Experience performing complex accounting and/or compilation of financial statements
Nice to have:

  • CPA
  • Very strong asset and preference to have public accounting experience
  • Exposure to working in a publicly traded company

Education and Certifications

Minimum education required: University Degree or College Diploma
