Job Description

Our large-scale education client is looking for a Data & Integration Architect to permanently join their team.

Overview:
Reporting into the Manager, Enterprise Solutions, the Data & Integration Architect is a technology solution leader and accountable for the current and future state of our client's data, integration and cloud strategy, implementation and services in support of their priorities. Our client is embarking on major technology transformations. This role is critical in advancing the current state data technology landscape and leading the complex evolution to transitional and future states.

Key Details:
- The Fun Stuff: 3 weeks' vacation, 5 personal days and 75 paid sick days per year, tuition waiver, pension plan and closed between Christmas & New Years
- Hybrid: Working onsite 2 days per week in Downtown Toronto
- Interview Process: 1 or 2, 30-minute interviews

Roles and Responsibilities

  • STRATEGIC: Identifying and validating business priorities and developing and maintaining a rolling 3-year roadmap that exploit various data, integration and cloud technologies and platforms.
  • IMPLEMENTATION: the use of deep, expert and hands-on technical knowledge and skills in data design/management/storage, integration, cloud and best practices to deliver the utmost long-term business value from their deployments while minimizing risks.
  • SERVICE: effective & efficient management of services pertaining to data, integration, analytics, reporting and cloud across the department.
  • Accountable to lead the development and maintenance of our client's data & integration strategy and transformation in a highly complex environment mixed technology landscape, ensuring alignment with business strategy & priorities. Responsible for capital and operational budget & expenditures. Act as the authoritative advisor and provide deep subject matter expertise. A key decisionmaker in the department and a key influencer to the business.
  • Build business cases and architect end-to-end data, integration and cloud solutions, leveraging existing solutions/investments, modelled after industry best practices for their specific scenarios – including data/information, API, service oriented, microservices, event-driven and other modern architectures – to support seamless integration of business processes, data, platforms, analytics and reporting. Research & assess applications, tools and cloud platforms. Drive data maturity and governance, evolving the client to a data-driven organization, leveraging data as a strategic asset.
  • Lead, implement, secure, optimize, maintain and monitor data and integration solutions, including data policies, data standards, data processes, data pipelines, data models, data integrity, data warehouses, data lakes, and master data management. Administer sensitive business and student data for data-driven solutions and stakeholder decision-making.
  • Lead an internal team of up to 10 team members – including architects, integrators, developers, systems analysts, data analysts, and business analysts – to build solutions and ensure compliance with architecture, information security and best practices. Provide direction, guidance, mentorship and/or training to team manage team and staff performance and take corrective actions as necessary.
  • Accountable to lead projects that include up to 30 project team members, external partners/vendors and stakeholders to ensure that project goals and outcomes are met. Manage vendor relationships, agreements and contracts.
  • Drive business process changes underpinned by technology architecture changes and lead organizational/people change management initiatives to ensure smooth transition.
  • Lead, implement and maintain DevOps initiatives to automate and streamline •operations. Proactively identifying process improvements.
  • Ensure IT continuity and drive IT capabilities maturity through knowledge transfer, cross-training, standardization, solution/integration/data solution architecture diagrams, documentation, presentations, and thought leadership. Act as a role model for the team.


Qualifications and Experience
  • Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Engineering, IT or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Data management or data architect certification an asset.
  • Cloud architect foundation certification (Azure, AWS, etc.) an asset.
  • Cloud solution architect certification (Azure, AWS, etc.) an asset.
  • Enterprise architecture certification (TOGAF, Zachman, etc.) an asset.
  • Project management certification (PMP, Scrum, etc.) an asset.
  • Service management certification (ITIL, IT4IT, etc.) an asset.
  • 5 years experience in enterprise data design, management, storage, and deployment.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud data architecture and integrations, designing solutions for the cloud and hybrid/private cloud, and implementing the solutions.
  • Experience with database management system and administration (Oracle, Microsoft SQL, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience with SQL.
  • Experience in leading and guiding teams to deliver solutions that are in compliance with architectures, and modelled after best practices.
  • 3 years of people and performance management, providing direction, guidance and coaching.
  • Experience in business intelligence, analytics, reporting and data visualization.
  • Experience with big data, Hadoop, Spark and related technologies an asset.
  • Experience with Java, Python, C# an asset.
  • Expert knowledge with data architecture, including data modelling, data governance
Must have:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to present complex technical materials to non-technical stakeholders and executives.
  • Ability to solve large complex IT and business problems that are often ambiguous or with unknowns. Exceptional project delivery leadership and people management skills.
  • Exceptional judgment, discretion, problem solving and analytical skills. Self-starter and takes initiatives.
  • Ability to guide team members to deliver the most optimal solutions, modelled after best practices and ensure architectural compliance.
  • Excellent time management skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, including the ability to work independently, set priorities, and meet deadlines at an individual and team level.
