Altis Recruitment is working exclusively with National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities (NAPRA) on a permanent Pharmacy Practice Specialist opportunity. The Pharmacy Practice Specialist is responsible for providing expertise in pharmacy practice that can be applied to NAPRA’s ongoing professional and regulatory activities. This includes, but is not limited to, leading key NAPRA projects on issues affecting the regulation of pharmacy practice and supporting NAPRA’s work related to professional practice or regulatory issues, including engagement with key stakeholders.

The Pharmacy Practice Specialist will report to the Manager, Professional and Regulatory Affairs. The successful candidate will gain the opportunity to share their pharmacy practice expertise with the NAPRA team, while enhancing their knowledge about the regulation of pharmacy practice, and its impact on pharmacy care in each of the jurisdictions of Canada.

As our ideal candidate, you are a licensed Pharmacist with at least 5 years’ experience practicing pharmacy in a hospital or health facility setting, ideally with sterile compounding experience. You have also had the opportunity to work on large projects in your previous roles, including managing tasks and timelines, facilitating meetings, building relationships with stakeholders and working with diverse groups with various viewpoints to build consensus. You have experience applying your excellent research, problem-solving, judgment and analytical skills to policy research and development. You are a strong written and verbal communicator with excellent attention to detail and are able to work independently with minimal supervision. You’re available to work between 0.8 FTE and 1 FTE, at the NAPRA office in downtown Ottawa on a hybrid basis.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple, key NAPRA projects related to the regulation of pharmacy practice, as assigned by the Manager, Professional and Regulatory Affairs
  • Coordinate, facilitate and support committees or working groups of subject matter experts to support assigned projects. This includes supporting the recruitment of subject matter experts from relevant associations and stakeholders in coordination with the Manager, Professional and Regulatory Affairs
  • Facilitate and undertake consultation with relevant stakeholders, as appropriate, to support assigned projects
  • Conduct research and environmental scans and provide an informed analysis based on the results, as necessary to support key projects and other work related to professional practice or regulatory issues
  • Respond to external queries related to pharmacy practice and regulatory topics, researching information as needed to do so
  • Actively participate in NAPRA’s engagement with the federal government and other relevant stakeholders, including research and analysis of the topics at hand
  • Contribute their pharmacy practice expertise to the development of NAPRA’s suite of documents, including standards of practice, competency profiles and guidance documents.
  • Provide support for NAPRA’s National Drug Schedules Program, including but not limited to: maintenance of the database, support of the National Drug Scheduling Advisory Committee, summarizing scientific information relevant to the NDS program and responding to external inquiries related to drug scheduling
  • Draft or revise documents required for the assigned projects, stakeholder consultations or other work related to professional and regulatory affairs based on research conducted and feedback of subject matter experts, NAPRA member organizations and relevant stakeholders
  • Review and provide constructive feedback regarding the work of other team members to ensure NAPRA needs are met, when required for assigned work and assigned projects.

Qualifications and Experience
  • A current license to practice pharmacy in a province of Canada
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a pharmacy practice setting, ideally in a hospital or health facility setting. Experience in sterile compounding is considered an asset
  • Experience with policy research in a pharmacy or healthcare context
  • Project management and supervisory experience
  • Strong facilitation skills with the ability to build consensus amongst a diversity of viewpoints
  • Ability to work well with committees, subject matter experts and stakeholders and to build collaborative relationships
  • Strength in problem solving, analytical, organization skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex ideas into simple statements.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Proficiency in French is an asset
