Job Description

Our client located in the downtown core of Toronto is seeking an Accounting Manager to join their fast paced growth organization. This is a newly created position and would be perfect for a senior accountant ready to take a step up in their career into a leadership role. This role does allow for some WFH options during the current phase of reopening in Ontario, however working on-site 100% will be required in the near future. The office is located steps away from Union Station, unfortunately no employer paid parking is available.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Maintaining and updating day-to-day financial records
  • Preparing and analyzing various financial statements and reports. This includes, but is not limited to, month-end reports, quarter-end reports, year-end reports, margin reports, management reports, and monthly reports for lenders
  • Performing account analysis, balance sheet reconciliations, purchasing and expense report reviews, fixed assets maintenance, and variance analyses and investigation
  • Closing books monthly and annually in a timely manner
  • Reviewing and monitoring financial transactions
  • Preparing budgets and monitoring expenses
  • Overseeing taxes and preparing tax returns/remittances
  • Supervising AR and AP functions
  • Managing AR and AP staff. This includes mentoring and coaching, setting goals and objectives, and participating in the recruitment process
  • Leading year-end audits. This includes assisting auditors and ensuring proper documentation is provided for the audit
  • Identifying and resolving accounting issues in a timely manner
  • Collaborating with other departments on Finance-related matters
  • Providing training and support for accounting and operational software system users in the Finance department
  • Researching and recommending ‘best practices’ processes to improve overall operational efficiencies
  • Variance analysis and investigation
  • Recommending and participating in changes in development, design and implementation of corporate accounting systems, forms and documentation
  • Complying with federal and provincial legal requirements
  • Establishing and maintaining strong internal controls, ensuring integrity of databases and information reported
  • Other projects and/or responsibilities as required or assigned

Qualifications and Experience
  • Minimum 3 years of senior accounting experience working in a small, fast-growing company
  • CPA, CMA or CGA designation
  • Advanced proficiency in Sage and Microsoft Excel
  • Experience working at a publicly-traded company
  • Experience in the manufacturing, distribution or consumer packaged goods industry

Education and Certifications

Minimum education required: College Diploma
