Job Description

Altis recruitment, on behalf of our client, is seeking to hire multiple General Managers for resident communities. The ideal candidate is an energetic, motivated leader with operations management experience, preferably in Retirement/Community Living or Hospitality. You thrive in leading passionate teams to deliver a superior customer experience and would love to ensure the residents truly feel at home and enjoy a great day every day and when needed, you are able to step in and support the Sales team.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Leads an efficient team of Managers, and front line employees (i.e. kitchen, nursing, activities, etc.);
  • Builds and maintains a strong team: sources, selects and onboards key talent
  • Actively plans for succession
  • Develops employees: coaches and manages performance
  • Holds team accountable
  • Recognizes and rewards results
  • Ensures focus on results: Financial, Occupancy, Customer Service, Employee Engagement and Health and Safety standards
  • Sets financial goals and achieves them
  • Actively looks for ways to market and promote the company.
  • Creates partnerships/associations with local businesses to get clients and leads
  • Manage unionized associates within the framework of the collective agreement.
  • Prepares annual operational and capital budgets and monitors performance monthly against them
  • Responsible for the day to day operations of the residence.
  • Meets with Residents/families to resolve problems/concerns/complaints and reviews suggestions and communicates on a regular basis with the Residents and their families
  • Attends Resident meetings as requested in order to discuss concerns/complaints and suggestions
  • Deals personally with any federal, provincial or municipal inspections; responds to areas of non-compliance and recommendations
  • Responds to complaints as required, ensuring that the Retirement Homes Act is followed
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications and Experience
  • College Diploma or University Degree in a related discipline
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Must have:

  • Minimum of 5 years experience dealing with seniors in a Retirement/Community living setting
  • Minimum 3 years management experience , managing a team performance
  • Is familiar with the provisions of the following legislation: Employment Standards Act, Workers’ Compensation Act, Public Health Act Occupational Health & Safety Act, Residential Tenancies Act, Retirement Homes Act, and Occupational Health & Safety Act
Nice to have:

  • Sales abilities

Education and Certifications

Minimum education required: College Diploma
