Job Description

We are currently recruiting for a Director, Government Relations opportunity with our client, a leader in food delivery space. Candidates for this full-time, permanent opportunity can be based in either TORONTO or WINNIPEG, and will work a hybrid of 2-3 days in the office, and the remainder of the days remotely. The individual in this role will be responsible for defining the strategy for government relations and public policy to drive the business across the country. They will work closely with Senior Leaders to ensure engagements with government officials and regulators align with corporate objectives and regulatory requirements to drive business impact. You will be joining a growing, dynamic team that is creative and agile.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Manage the companies government relations activities, and will have the opportunity to help shape public policy that will advance the myriad of business interests which includes advocating for policies that help drive the long term growth, strength, viability and sustainability of the business
  • Create and execute government relations objectives for many of their policy positions, drafting relevant communications and contributing to regular policy updates to the executive team
  • You will be an integral contributor to the success of the companies overall Government Relations strategy, and will work collaboratively with internal teams to ensure alignment between business priorities and public policy goals
  • Assess and anticipate public policy matters, oversee and coordinate external advocacy efforts, outreach programs, and key initiatives
  • Responsible for building long lasting and substantive relationships with key external stakeholders, including participating in industry coalitions
  • Identify and grow industry and coalition relationships while managing external agency partners
  • Work closely with the Director of Communications and the senior leadership team to develop public policy priorities, shaping the policy and regulatory environment to grow our business and those of our partners


Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related concentration
  • At least 8 years of relevant experience and a deep understanding of business and the legislative process, including effective lobbying strategies and the mechanics of policy-making at the municipal, provincial and federal level
  • Experience serving in government, industry coalitions, and/or internal corporate government relations or policy roles
  • Food industry and/or tech experience an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to be both a substantive issue expert on matters related to the business, and a manager of complex political relationships
  • Proven ability to develop and articulate positions on complex public policy issues
  • You’ll need to be agile, a strong team player who’s able to foster relationships with business and government leaders, trade associations and other stakeholders important to our business while forging strong internal relationships
  • You have a great attitude and are a natural communicator and collaborator with superior communications skills
  • Must be able to travel as needed
  • Positive and enthusiastic - You have a great attitude and are a proven self-starter

Minimum education required: Bachelor's Degree
