Job Description

Our client located in Ottawa, is currently seeking a Controller to join their team on a full-time, permanent basis. The successful Controller is responsible for oversight of accounts payable and revenue accounting, budgeting and reporting, and payroll. Reporting to the Director of Finance, responsibility will also include liaising with the external public accountants.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Establishment of procedures, processes, and internal controls with director approval
  • Management of staff, including assignment of tasks and performance review
  • Plan and participate in upgrades to the financial system
  • Lead the year-end audit process and the preparation of the annual audit report
  • Oversight of the accounts payable, revenue, and budgeting/reporting process
  • Oversee the accounting function for the regional offices including their transaction processing operations and policies and procedures
  • Approve automated and manual payments
  • Ensure regular bank reconciliations are completed and reviewed/approved in a timely manner
  • Oversee the month-end and year-end close process
  • Design, oversee and review the preparation of monthly and quarterly internal financial reports (in conjunction with the Manager of Reporting and Manager of Revenue Accounting)
  • Design, oversee and review the preparation of internal reports (e.g. Daily and monthly cash balances)
  • Annually design the system of budgeting and summarize the results.
  • Ensure payroll deductions are review/approved/remitted in a timely manner


Qualifications and Experience
  • Post-secondary degree in business or accounting
  • 3-5 years' experience in a similar role
  • CPA designation
  • Ability to manage various levels of personnel
  • Ability to manage priorities
  • Ability to work remotely
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point).
Nice to have:

  • Bilingualism will be considered a strong asset

Minimum education required: University Degree
