Job Description

We are looking for a permanent Buyer for a progressive Manufacturing organization located in Scarborough. We welcome junior to senior level candidates with varying degree of experience, as long as the candidates have strong critical thinking and excellent communication skills.

SCOPE OF WORK: Reporting to the Senior Supply Chain Procurement Manager, this position is responsible for source selection and procurement functions directly associated with the Company's needs for select secondary and tertiary packaging materials as well as supporting the implementation of material cost management in master data.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Develop and identify the appropriate documentation and processes to procure packaging materials. Ensuring adequate inventory levels, monitoring, adjusting, and ordering supplies based on consumption.
  • Generate and issue Purchase Orders for materials required
  • Follow up with suppliers to confirm estimated arrival date and update in SAP
  • Monitor past due Purchase Orders and contact suppliers for updates
  • Secure and analyze quotations; negotiate prices and terms with suppliers; and recommend suppliers with respect to cost, quality, and delivery competitiveness for assigned responsibilities
  • Update purchase order shipping schedules within SAP to ensure accurate production schedules
  • Identify and monitor back orders, expedite orders to minimize stock shortages


Qualifications and Experience
  • 1 to 5 years of purchasing experience, ideally within manufacturing or packaging sector demonstrated increasing level of responsibilities
  • Must be a highly motivated self-starter, with the ability to interact with individuals at all levels within the organization
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in a purchasing environment with progressive experience with proposals and tendering processes including resolving complex technical and regulatory issues
  • Must have experience with an ERP and advanced MS Word and Excel skills, proficient with word processing, spreadsheet, with strong analytical skills
  • Possess advanced communication skills to maintain positive vendor relationship, high level of internal communication with cross functional teams
  • Must possess strong analytical skills and the ability to identify trends and establish proactive corrective actions
