Job Description

Our established client is a premier Private Mortgage Lender in Canada, and they are looking for a Mortgage Underwriter to join the team. This position is fully remote and offers a competitive salary and commission structure, and is a great chance to join a dynamic and growing organization!

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Work in collaboration with both the Business Development Officer and the Closer
  • Ensure timely sales and completion of mortgage applications and to maintain positive relationships and build loyalty to the company
  • Collect necessary mortgage applicant reports, for example: income status, credit history, etc.
  • Collaborate with fellow underwriters when concerns arise regarding claim approvals and rejections
  • Compile mortgage applications from start to finish, including but not limited to: evaluating structure of application and negotiating with clients
  • Makes an active effort to ensure knowledge of underwriting guidelines is kept up to date
  • Promptly report accurate credit decisions to mortgage originator
  • Validate/Verify all required mortgage/client information
  • Evaluate mortgage applications, and make sure all appropriate details are included for alternative lending requirements
  • Periodically meet with mortgage brokers to present on new products, and to maintain relationships in the industry
  • Ensure consistent and sound risk assessments are maintained while managing high volumes and a continued focus on service excellence, within a 2-hour SLA to our broker partners
  • Maintain positive relationships with clients, lenders, and 3rd party contacts

Qualifications and Experience
  • Minimum 3 years' experience underwriting (focusing on residential) or mortgage broker experience
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities
  • Excellent team member and collaborative skills in combination with ability to work effectively independently
  • Any professional training including bank training in AML, FINTRAC; License: FSCO License
  • Strong computer skills (high level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products, such as Word, Excel, Adobe
  • Professional, and Outlook)
  • Excels in creating and keeping deadlines
  • CRM experience (Salesforce preferred)

  • Optional and strong existing broker networks
  • Cantonese, Mandarin, French, or Hindi
