Job Description

We are currently hiring for a Director of Human Resources. This full time permanent position is a great opportunity to join our client's team, a forward thinking National organization. The role is primarily remote presently, however will require you to touch base on-site in the Ottawa office.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Workforce planning and organizational development
  • Strategic planning in relation to programs in HR
  • Ensure systems are in place to monitor and report on the deployment of staff (in relation to the HR budget)
  • Develop and implement policies & programs
  • Develop the HR strategy and programs in various HR functions (ie: recruitment, benefits, negotiations, labour relations, training, succession planning, classification, etc)
  • Lead labour and employee relations functions (with respect to the collective agreement), conduct investigations, resolve complaints, and implement corrective action plans
  • Coach managers on the implementation of policies, Labour Relations, Employee Relations, Performance Management, etc
  • Participate in union-management committees
  • Ensure employees are provided with information about policies, job duties, working conditions, wages, career development and benefits
  • Maintain relationships with external business contacts/ suppliers
  • Negotiate contracts with suppliers
  • Verify legal documents, contracts and financial information
  • Participate in joint management committees, strategy sessions, union negotiations and arbitration or court proceedings
  • Monitor policies to ensure that they comply with the overall direction of the organization


Qualifications and Experience
Must have:

  • 10+ years of human resources experience
  • Fluently bilingual in French and English; oral and written
  • Previous experience with equity and/or social justice
  • MUST have unionized experience
  • Demonstrated management, negotiation and leadership skills to develop and implement strategic organizational policies and to represent the employer at joint union-management committees and internal bargaining sessions
  • Experience in the following: staff relations, labour relations, negotiations, collective bargaining, compensation, performance management, HR systems, recruitment & selection, organizational development, job evaluation, payroll, benefits, training, and succession planning
  • Knowledge of financial management practices, methods for financial analysis, forecasting, monitoring, cost-benefit analysis, pensions, benefit plans and investments
  • Knowledge of employment and labour legislations, occupational health and safety legislation and regulations, pension and benefits legislation, and other legislations and regulations pertinent to the responsibilities of the position
  • Ability to lead consultation processes and coordinate the delivery of large scale operational programs and projects

Minimum education required: Bachelor's Degree
